Improving cancer supportive care

Improving the quality of care for oncology patients through continuing education was the main goal of the 9th Panhellenic Oncology Nursing Symposium of the Nursing Oncology Sector - National Association of Nurses of Greece - ESNE.

The Symposium was held with great success, in beautiful Volos, November 4th to 6th, in collaboration with the Nursing Institutions of Thessaly. The Panhellenic Oncology Nursing Symposium is a reference point for the Greek Oncology Family.

Thank you for the great honor and pleasure to present the oral management of the Oncology patient as part of continuing education. We presented the toxicities and treatment complications, stomatitis, which hurt, xerostomia, dental caries, and gingivitis and periodontal disease, which can reduce the success of cancer therapies, as well as patients’ quality of life during and after therapy, as acute or chronic complications.

I sincerely thank the Coordinator of the Workshop, Ms. Ioanna Tsatsou and the the President of the Organizing Committee, Ms. Aikaterini Charana, and the President of the Scientific Committee, Mr. Dimitrios Papageorgiou, for the opportunity they gave me to participate in their great project.

I warmly congratulate the Department of Nursing Oncology for the excellent program, but also all its Members for their dedication to our fellow human beings, with the difficult experience of cancer, for their excellent knowledge and high quality skills! Thank you for the honorable invitation and the opportunity to participate in this great Conference!

With much respect,

Professor Ourania Nicolatou-Galitis,
