European Cancer Organisation – ECCO

The European Cancer Organization is a non-profit federation that connects and responds to all stakeholders in oncology Europe-wide, with the mission “to reduce the burden of cancer”, improve outcomes and the quality of care for cancer patients, through multidisciplinarity and multiprofessionalism.

ECCO exists to provide a cohesive platform for European cancer societies and organizations, to work together, to improve cancer patient outcomes, and to be the unified voice of the European cancer community when addressing common policy issues, ensuring that every patient has high quality care and treatment, with access to the full range of professionals needed.

ECCO has created the following Networks:

  • Quality Cancer Care Network
  • HPV Action Network
  • Health Systems and Treatment Optimization Network
  • Digital Health Network
  • Survivorship and Quality of Life Network
  • Workforce Network
  • Inequalities Network
  • Prevention Network
  • Special Network on the impact of COVID-19 on Cancer

The new Digital Health Network aims to assist the European cancer community and policy-makers in navigating the challenges of digital cancer care and maximizing its possibilities. Opportunities abound to improve practice in all areas of cancer care through better deployment of technology. This includes taking up tools already available, as well as harnessing rapidly emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning. However, doing so in an effective and cost-efficient manner is no easy feat. Careful consideration is required with respect to such issues as implementation pitfalls, best practices, and the overall vision of future practice that is being sought.

Professor Ourania Nicolatou-Galitis has the honor of being a member of the “Health Systems and Treatment Optimization Network” of the European Cancer Organization (ECCO), for 2020 and 2021, representing the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) www.mascc.org.
